Culture Shock follows a young Mexican woman (Martha Higareda) in pursuit of the American Dream, who crosses illegally into the United States, only to find herself in an American nightmare. Martha Higareda, Richard Cabral, Shawn Ashmore, Barbara Crampton, and Creed Bratton star in this painfully and socially relevant human story of desperation and the terrifying realities that come with getting a fair chance at life. The film is written by Efren Hernandez & James Benson and Gigi Saul Guerrero and directed by Gigi Saul Guerrero.

 

Director Bio
Gigi Saul Guerrero is a Mexican-Canadian director and actress described by Variety as part of the new wave of Latino talent. She has been praised as one of the top, emerging directors in the horror genre by Empire, Dread Central, and Bloody Disgusting. Guerrero is known for her gritty “Tex-Mex” filmmaking style with a lot of grind house influence and gore as well as horrors based on Mexican legends, folk tales, and modern urban legends and culturally relevant topics. She was born and raised in Mexico City, Mexico and moved to Vancouver B.C. to obtain her B.A. in Motion Picture Production. Guerrero is a co-founder of award-winning production company Luchagore Productions. Guerrero’s short film work as director includes La Quinceañera (a thrilling seven-episode mini-series co-created with Warner Brothers TV and Stage13), Dia De Los Muertos (a segmnent of Mexico Barbaro, a Mexican feature horror film anthology), M is for Matador (in ABC’s of Death 2.5), as well as the award-winning El Gigante, Madre de Dios, and Bestia. Culture Shock is Guerrero’s feature film directorial debut.
